UTU

2022

In an effort to shed light on forgotten cultural narratives that provide insights into our ancestors' beliefs, I embarked on a project focused on Sumerian mythology. Sumerian mythology holds a unique position as one of the earliest mythologies, exerting a profound cultural influence globally, including on Abrahamic religions.

My project centers around the Sumerian deity Utu, the God of the sun and warmth, whose multifaceted responsibilities include upholding justice. I aim to comprehensively represent Utu through various elements, including his name, symbol, illustration, and thematic elements evoking the sun, such as warm colors and a radiant glow.

Why The Obsession…?

2023

In this project, I talk about Edward Said's concept of orientalism, which highlights how the West constructs a condescending view of the East. This portrayal, rooted in misogyny and racism, dehumanizes Eastern cultures and women, justifying Western interference. I explore how Western feminist narratives often oversimplify and misrepresent the lives of Arab women, overlooking their agency and diverse experiences. Accurate representation and a deeper understanding of cultural differences are essential for true empowerment. I wrote an essay then created a poster as a visual representation of my words.
